​​When it Comes to Safety, Chevrolet is Always On The Forefront​

In the real world, a measurement of a safe vehicle is how it will withstand a collision or incident on the road. No matter the time of year, you have to be ready to avoid anything that can cause damage and harm to you.

This is hardly a new pursuit. In fact, General Motors first began crash barrier testing way back in 1934. By the 1970s, GM created the first standardized crash test dummies for measuring impacts of collisions on humans.  

These developments, amongst many others in material science, vehicle construction, and other associate fields have led to a near-constant evolution in what is considered to be “state of the art” – and how a Chevrolet can and should perform if it should be in a collision.  

The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) studied 12 million 2020-2024 GM vehicles and matched them with 700,000 accidents that were reported to law enforcement across 18 states. The study found significant reductions in several crash types. For example, there was a reduction by 86% of backing crashes, a 57% drop in rear-end crashes involving injuries, and a 35% reduction in pedestrian collisions with injury, amongst other incidents. 

One positive point to be made here is a reflection on GM’s holistic approach to safety. This combines research, technology, and advocacy towards improving vehicle and occupant safety. Encouraging drivers and occupants to take an active role in avoiding accidents help to reduce the number of incidents and influence the way GM enhance safety in their vehicles. That includes how to engage public safety personnel in quicker response to incidents.  

This also reflects how GM champions safety as part of their product development and customer satisfaction.
