2026 Chevrolet Trax vs. the Competition

The Toyota Corolla Cross is a crossover based on the globally popular sedan. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, it is also offered in a hybrid version. The Corolla Cross is available in front- and all-wheel drive.

• While the Corolla Cross uses a continuously variable transmission, the Trax offers a six-speed conventional automatic transmission. Therefore, the Chevrolet is more responsive in its shifts and offers more flexible acceleration.
• The Trax is very spacious, offering a total interior volume of 125.4 cubic feet compared to the Corolla Cross’s 118.9 cubic feet. The Chevrolet also offers more cargo volume: 25.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats, compared to 24.0 cubic feet in the Toyota.
• Longer legs will find a home in the rear seat of the Trax with 38.7 inches of room. The Corolla Cross has only 32.0 inches of rear legroom. The Trax also has more shoulder (54.3 inches vs. 52.4 inches) and hip room (45.8 inches vs. 43.8 inches) in the rear seat.
• When it comes to performance, the Trax has better low-end grunt. The ECOTEC turbocharged three-cylinder engine puts down 162 pound-feet of torque compared to the Corolla Cross’s 151 pound-feet of torque.
• Even in the LS model, the Trax is feature-rich. It offers standard Google Built-in for the infotainment system and OnStar. You can also add Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert – both features are not available on the lower-priced Corolla Cross L.
• Chevrolet Trax prices start at an MSRP of $21,700 – over $3,300 less than the lowest-priced Corolla Cross.

Subaru offers a crossover with plenty of unique features. With standard all-wheel drive and a horizontally opposed engine, the Crosstrek was developed for a specific purpose. Its loyal customer base loves its Subarus for these unique features. 

• The Trax offers greater low-end grunt. The ECOTEC turbocharged three-cylinder engine puts down 162 pound-feet of torque compared to the Crosstrek’s standard 2.0-liter engine’s 145 pound-feet of torque.
• Subarus are known for their continuously variable transmissions. However, the Trax offers a six-speed conventional automatic transmission. Therefore, the Chevrolet is more responsive in its shifts and offers more flexible acceleration.
• The Trax offers a total interior volume of 125.4 cubic feet compared to the Crosstrek’s 120.4 cubic feet. That includes the Chevrolet’s spacious cargo area behind the rear seats with 25.6 cubic feet compared to 19.9 cubic feet in the Subaru.
• Rear seat legroom is better in the Trax, with 38.7 inches of room compared to the Crosstrek’s 36.5 inches of rear legroom.
• Even in the LS model, the Trax is a feature-rich vehicle. It offers standard Automatic Emergency Braking, OnStar, rear seat vents, and a capless fuel filler. You can also add Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert – both features are not available on the lower-priced Crosstrek Base model.
• The Trax offers Google Built-in as part of the Chevrolet Infotainment System. This enables you to use the suite of Google apps without having to connect your smartphone. 
• Chevrolet Trax prices start at an MSRP of $21,700 – about $5,300 less than the lowest-priced Crosstrek.

Kia’s compact SUV offers plenty of practicality underneath its conventional (but different) design. It also offers Kia’s unique design language, making it a standout in its class. The Seltos is available in front- and all-wheel drive.

• The Trax offers improved low-end grunt. The ECOTEC turbocharged three-cylinder engine puts down 162 pound-feet of torque compared to the Seltos’ standard 2.0-liter engine’s 132 pound-feet of torque. The Kia’s engine does not offer variable valve timing, unlike the Chevrolet Trax. 
• The Seltos is equipped with a continuously variable transmission. The Trax uses a six-speed conventional automatic transmission instead. Therefore, the Chevrolet is more responsive in its shifts and offers more flexible acceleration.
• The Trax LS is a feature-rich vehicle for the money. It offers SiriusXM, Google built-in as part of the Chevrolet Infotainment System, and OnStar services. You can also add Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert – both features are not available on the lower-priced Seltos LX model.
• Pricing for the Chevrolet Trax starts at an MSRP of $21,700 – $2,000 less than the lowest-priced Seltos.

Introduced over a year ago, the Nissan Kicks has grown in size and features a design unlike anything in its class. It offers plenty of space and personality to go along with a larger 2.0-liter engine. Nissan’s small SUV is available in front- and all-wheel drive.

• Even with the larger engine, the Kicks has less low-end torque than the Trax. The Chevrolet’s ECOTEC turbocharged three-cylinder engine puts down 162 pound-feet of torque compared to the Kicks’ 140 pound-feet of torque.
• The Nissan’s continuously variable transmission is no match for the Trax’s six-speed conventional automatic transmission. The Chevrolet is more responsive in shifts with more flexible acceleration overall.
• There is more rear seat legroom in the Trax with 38.7 inches of room compared to the Kicks’ 34.5 inches of rear legroom.
• For the money, the Trax LS is well equipped with plenty of features. It offers second-row rear vents, a capless fuel filler system, SiriusXM, Google Built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OnStar services, and Lane Keeping Assist.
• Chevrolet Trax starts at an MSRP of $21,700 – over $1,000 less than the lowest-priced Kicks.
